We enjoyed hosting our first ever seminar this week at our office in Beverley.
Entitled ‘Practical Trusts Seminar‘, the aim was to provide guidance and generate discussion on the day-to-day issues professionals often have to deal with when managing Trusts.
It was great to bring together professionals from across Yorkshire, including lawyers, accountants, and financial advisers from Beverley and the surrounding areas.
The seminar began with a talk from Stuart McLeod at Cater Allen who provided information on their ‘Solutions for Trusts’ and how these can be setup and managed by intermediaries.
We then heard from Elizabeth Atkinson, a barrister from Ten Old Square in London, who talked through common problems that can crop up with Trusts and ways in which these can be addressed. Topics covered what happens when there is uncertainty as to the terms of a Trust, it is unclear who the Trustees are and things to keep in mind with a Letter of Wishes.
The seminar was ended with an insightful talk from one of our own solicitors, David Stokes, who discussed how Trusts may continue to play a part in effective estate planning, following the Government’s recent budget and changes to Agricultural and Business Property Relief.
We are very thankful to those that attended and we look forward to hosting a follow-up seminar in the not too distant future!
